Why we started here

Mold and damp are common in Portuguese housing, but most of what comes up when you search for it is either a product trying to sell you something, or vague advice that doesn't account for how Portuguese buildings are actually constructed. We wanted a source that starts with the evidence: what's actually growing, why it's happening in this specific housing stock, what fixes work, and what's a waste of money.

That starting point set the editorial rule we still follow: every guide gets a publish date, a named author, and a source list, the same discipline we'd expect from a diagnostic report. As the library grew from a handful of core pages to a full set of guides covering diagnosis, regional risk, regulation, and prevention, the rule didn't change. Every article is still dated, sourced, and reviewed on the same schedule described below.

How we keep every guide current

Each guide on mold.pt carries a visible publish date, an updated date when it's revised, and an estimated reading time, so you know exactly how current the information is before you rely on it. We review guides when a cited standard changes, when Portuguese building regulation is updated, or on a routine schedule, whichever comes first. Every article carries a named author and a short credential line linking back to this page, so you always know who stands behind what's published.

Specialist & contractor network

We match confirmed diagnoses with vetted inspectors, contractors, and remediation specialists, so the fix is scoped to the actual cause. The network is growing across Portugal; specialists can sign up here.

What we won't do

We won't recommend a product or service just because it's easy to sell. If something doesn't hold up to evidence, we say so, even if that means telling you not to buy something.

Who's behind mold.pt

Pascal Niggli, Co-Founder of mold.pt
Pascal Niggli
Co-Founder, mold.pt, blockzeit.com & remodel.pt

Pascal co-founded mold.pt after finding no Portugal-specific source on damp and mold that wasn't either trying to sell something or too generic to be useful. He leads mold.pt's research and editorial content, alongside blockzeit.com (crypto news and data) and remodel.pt (a renovation marketplace for foreign property owners), and every guide is cross-checked against the standards below before it's published.

Kellogg Fairbank, Co-Founder of mold.pt
Kellogg Fairbank
Co-Founder, mold.pt & remodel.pt

Kellogg is a former payments executive turned entrepreneur, with roughly two decades in international fintech before shifting into real estate. A year spent on real estate and inspection projects across Portugal kept surfacing the same issue: mold and humidity as a recurring, overlooked problem behind properties that looked fine on paper, which led him to co-found mold.pt alongside Pascal. The two are also co-founders of remodel.pt.

Cited to real standards

Every guide is grounded in named sources, not general claims.
